To Hell with Themes!

I'm tired - not of haunting, I'll never get tired of that - but of trying to pull off a decent theme. My problem is that I like too many, and being in High School, I have a very limited budget, and it's hard to build a differently themed haunt each year. The voodoo/swamp theme I had planned was no exception. Plus, due to Halloween being on a Monday this year, I have to be at my Dad's house this time because of school, and his house wouldn't work for a swamp theme at all. So, at least for this year, I'm not gonna do a theme - I'm just going to focus on having a fun time on Halloween. Maybe I'll do a them next year; but in the mean time, I'll just focus on having a good time with haunting.

  1. The themes are fun. I did them for 12 years. But then I realized I need to make new props every year- could not store all of then- and would probably never use them again...not to mention, coming up with a theme I was excited about every year for myself and our party goers. Needless to say- I saw the light and went with a strict graveyard haunt and just add to it each year, because as you mentioned...it's all about having fun and enjoying the season. So kick back this year and soak it all in!

  2. Aww, man. I didn't know Halloween fell on a Monday this year! That's too bad...

Yeah, just have fun with the holiday. That's what Halloween is all about! :)

  3. You know, HN, buddy, I gotta say that it's fun to not have a party but to just party on Halloween. You may find an amazing inspiration if you simply wander the darkness, capture the smells, sounds, and feel and write a really awesome short story based upon Halloween night and then next year--the inspiration will be easy.

  5. Come on .. Do not give so quickly ... Let's see... Swamp ...A dry ice fog covering the grounds "unidentifiable" Lumps And Mounds (Maybe piles of leaves... or a crude tarp or Painted paper as a light weight overlay with a simple framework beneath for support... PVC piping, coat hangers ... Frame... Anything the gives the under-structure support) protruding Many broken bits of branches sticking out ( make use of whatever "shadowy" areas of your Haunt Location) Make it as "simple" or as "All-Out" as you have the time to do so ... above all.. Treat yourself with some sort of "Display" just to please your self Oh And check out my "Blog"... "Dr. Theda's Crypt"... Still 40 days to put together something that you like ... E-Mail me if I can offer any tips on "prop" construction .drt0735@Gmail.com ...Good luck at your project
